James Ennis from Long Beach State has earned StatSheet's Big West Player of the Week award for February 18th. UC Irvine's Alex Young has won StatSheet's Big West Freshman of the Week. Ennis registered respectable numbers with 60% shooting, 19 points per game, and 9 rebounds per game. The Long Beach State senior played well in victories versus Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.
Ennis led the 49ers in scoring and rebounding with 26 points and 15 rebounds in a big 85-65 win over Cal State Fullerton. He followed that up with 12 points and 4 assists in a huge 75-35 victory over UC Riverside.
This is one of three StatSheet Big West Player of the Week awards for James Ennis. He has also received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Alan Williams, a sophomore from UC-Santa Barbara. Honorable mention goes to Tony Freeland, a junior from Long Beach State.
StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week: UC Irvine's Alex Young
Alex Young played an average of 29 minutes starting both games for UC Irvine. His averages in both scoring (13.0 pts per game) and assists (5.5 per game) led all Big West freshmen. In a late 52-48 win over UC Riverside, Young tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds. Then in a massive 86-66 win against Cal State Fullerton, he put up 7 assists and 66% shooting.
Alex Young has won the StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week an astounding 3 times. Joel Awich from Cal Poly gets runner-up. Zach Gordon from Cal Poly takes honorable mention. Taylor Johns was the highest ranking freshman from UC Riverside and finished 9th. UC Riverside has yet to win StatSheet Big West Player of the Week.
